The market

When the many shopping streets and Advent markets light up the city of Vienna in the run-up to Christmas, one place shines especially brightly: the Vienna Christmas Market is considered one of Europe’s biggest and most beautiful Christmas markets.

Highlights

If there’s one thing the Christmas Market can do, it’s shorten the time before Christmas and heighten the anticipation of the big festive season – because here, every day is Christmas Day.

Ice skating

On one side, the beautiful Burgtheater; on the other, the imposing Vienna City Hall, rising majestically and atmospherically illuminated in front of the Christmas park and the Vienna Christmas market: anyone who combines these impressions into a fascinating whole on ice skates may well feel as if they are in a dream.

  • Cycle paths run both in front of (Universitätsring) and behind the City Hall (Friedrich-Schmidt-Platz).
  • Plenty of bicycle parking is available.
  • A WienMobilRad station is located directly in front of the Rathauspark.
