The Wiener Männergesang-Verein was founded in 1843 and is among the oldest male voice choirs in the German-speaking world. The choir is a co-founder of the Musikverein building, where performances in the Golden Hall are a highlight of any artist’s career. Emperor Franz Joseph described the Wiener Männergesang-Verein as “my beloved court minstrels”. Johann Strauss composed songs for the choir, such as “The Blue Danube”, which became Austria’s unofficial hymn. Since 2022, women have also been singing first and second tenor.
