DESCRIPTION:In November 1863\, the “Schubertbund Teachers’ Choir” was founded by Franz Mair and renamed the “Vienna Schubertbund” in 1922. In 1935\, the male-voice choir\, which is still highly regarded today\, gave a concert in Rome before Pope Pius IX with 500 singers. Renowned composers such as Richard Strauss\, Wilhelm Kienzl and Franz Lehár have dedicated important works to the Wiener Schubertbund. The highlights of the choir’s activities are the “Schubertiads”\, which take place every spring in the house where Franz Schubert was born.

DESCRIPTION:The Wiener Männergesang-Verein was founded in 1843 and is among the oldest male voice choirs in the German-speaking world. The choir is a co-founder of the Musikverein building\, where performances in the Golden Hall are a highlight of any artist’s career. Emperor Franz Joseph described the Wiener Männergesang-Verein as “my beloved court minstrels”. Johann Strauss composed songs for the choir\, such as “The Blue Danube”\, which became Austria’s unofficial hymn. Since 2022\, women have also been singing first and second tenor.

The choir enjoys singing gospels\, folk and Viennese songs\, pop\, classical and sacred choral music\, as well as a range of creative\, alternative arrangements. The choir’s motto: “We clearly prioritise the joy of making music over the pressure to achieve perfection.”

DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1964\, the Carmina Dacica women’s choir celebrated 60 years on stage in 2019. Under the direction of Prof. Flora Toth (since 1986)\, it has become a firm favourite in the musical life of Timișoara and beyond. With a broad repertoire of styles from Renaissance to Modern\, the choir has received multiple awards and has a national and international presence – including in France\, Spain\, Poland\, Greece and the Netherlands.

DESCRIPTION:The American International School of Vienna in Vienna’s 19th district is a prep school for children between the ages of four and eighteen from 81 nations\, promoting the arts and sport to ensure its pupils’ holistic development. The Middle School Choir is made up of 11-to-14-year-old pupils and sings works in a wide range of musical styles and gives four concerts annually – including at the International Advent Singing festival! DESCRIPTION:The Carinthian Singing Community in Vienna (“Kärntner Singgemeinschaft in Wien”) is made up of 40 singers and was founded in 1980 by a group of students originally from Carinthia with the aim of preserving Carinthian songs in their adopted home of Vienna. Bernhard Sturm\, a former member of Vienna Boys’ Choir and graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna\, has been the choirmaster since 1984. Alongside its many performances in Austria\, the choir has also thrilled international audiences during trips abroad\, such as at the “Concorso Corale Internazionale”\, an international choir competition with 38 choirs from 13 countries\, where it received a Gold Diploma.

DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Kispest mixed choir “Gyöngyvirág” (lily of the valley) from the Budapest district of Kispest celebrated its 55th anniversary. With a repertoire spanning across all periods\, from Gregorian melodies to the world of jazz\, the choir has always endeavoured to preserve its very own individual character. At church music and international choir competitions\, it has been awarded gold medals by expert juries\, including in the category of jazz. Since its foundation\, the choir has taken part in numerous Hungarian and European choir competitions and festivals.

They combine a passion for music with creative expression\, and specialise in “show choir” – a compelling performance style that blends choir singing with choreography. It all started back in a singing school\, where the young people got to know each other\, and then later took part in a choir competition in Hong Kong. The choir members place great value on traditional music from Thailand\, but are also open to traditional music from other countries. To them\, choir singing represents a fantastic opportunity to be creative in their free time.
